PME LEGEND BARE METAL
Inspiration can be found in the unlikeliest of places, the ‘light bulb’ moment drawn from the simplest of objects. Sometimes what is fundamental and unembellished can trigger the epiphany that gives birth to new design, future icon. The Bare Metal collection was born of such a moment.
When the wing from a bare metal plane was brought all the way from Alaska, its simplistic design of function over form seeded theoriginal spark to create a range only of what is necessary.
As far back as classic Bare Metal planes were used, the weight saving of up to 40 litres of paint making the planes lighter, faster and more fuel-efficient. Bare Metal cargo planes also benefited from this weight saving by carrying up to 400kgs of extra cargo. The primary function of these flying machines was efficiency, no embellishments with the basic fundamental materials exposed to see.
The final finished planes, these silver birds, had something inherently beautiful in their stark design. This basic, technicalapproach to plane design continues to inspire and influence the elements and materials in the Bare Metal collection today. The fabrics used are efficient, the design is technically advanced and purposeful, yet unadorned and stripped back, designed purely to perform!
